NCSOFT's Throne and Liberty Set for Global Launch in 2024

NCSOFT is gearing up for the worldwide release of its highly anticipated role-playing game, Throne and Liberty (TL), on December 7. In a recent announcement, the company revealed that global expansion was a core consideration from the game's inception, and it will be introduced internationally in collaboration with global publisher Amazon Games.

PD Ahn Jong-wook, the producer overseeing TL’s development, expressed, "Creating a global MMORPG (massively multiplayer online RPG) was our goal from the beginning of the project." He emphasized the incorporation of content and business models designed to resonate with a diverse international audience.


NCSOFT has diligently tailored various in-game systems to cater to the preferences and demands of global users, aiming to satisfy a broader spectrum of players. Following the closed beta testing in May, the company conducted a pilot test in an overseas market with Amazon Games in September. Incorporating feedback from the test, they refined the system to meet the standards and expectations of global players.


A significant adjustment made based on user feedback was the removal of the automatic hunting and automatic movement system to cater to the dynamic gameplay preferences of North American and European users. This change led to a comprehensive overhaul of the combat system, allowing characters to attack while in motion. Additionally, a non-targeting skill was introduced, enabling players to hit specific points rather than designating a particular character or monster. The weapon combination system, allowing players to equip and use two types of weapons, was also enhanced to offer diverse combat styles based on user preference and control proficiency.


In terms of TL’s business model, NCSOFT disclosed its intention to implement a battle pass system. This approach enables players to progress through gameplay by leveling up, completing daily or weekly tasks, and earning various cosmetic items and in-game currency rewards. Ahn emphasized, “Our goal is to create a PC MMORPG that attracts many people," reassuring players that the battle pass-centered approach would remain the focus.


Prior to its official launch, TL has already demonstrated its popularity in the domestic market through character creation. NCSOFT reported that all five opened servers were fully booked within just one hour, prompting the addition of more servers to accommodate the high demand. As Throne and Liberty prepares for its global debut, players eagerly anticipate an immersive MMORPG experience tailored to diverse gaming preferences.
